Looking for celiac-safe restaurants that also cater to a vegan diet? New York City has so many great options. Whether you’re plant-based, dining with a vegan friend, or just looking to try new vegetable-forward options, I’ve put together a list of my favorite gluten-free, vegan-friendly restaurants in NYC.
Dedicated Gluten-Free and Dedicated Vegan:
Bar Verde
Lower East Side
Bar Verde is currently the only dedicated gluten-free AND dedicated vegan restaurant in New York City, and thankfully, it is delicious, Mexican-inspired food. Bar Verde is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC, and I take so many friends here whether they’re vegan or not. The flavors are so creative in all their dishes, and it is a do-not-miss if you’re vegan and gluten-free!
My Favorites:
- Nachos (these are a do not miss!)
- Flautas
- Churros
Dedicated Gluten-Free with Vegan Options:
Nami Nori
West Village & Williamsburg
Nami Nori is a dedicated gluten-free sushi spot with Temaki-style rolls (open-style hand rolls). I think it offers some of the best, most unique flavors of the gluten-free dining options in NYC. They also offer 5 completely vegan sushi rolls. If you’re a sushi fan, you have to check out Nami Nori (whether or not you’re gluten-free or vegan). I strongly recommend making a reservation here.
My Favorites:
- The Vegan Set
- Furikaké Fries
Thyme and Tonic
Upper West Side
Thyme and Tonic, owned by the same team as Modern Bread & Bagel, is dedicated gluten-free and dairy-free, and almost entirely vegan. They’ve also revamped their menu and recipes recently, so if you haven’t been back in a while, I recommend giving it another try.
My Favorites:
- The Colonel (Fried “Chicken” Sandwich)
- All-American Impossible Burger
- Pomegranate & Pumpkin Seed Guacamole with Plantain Chips
Kati Shop
Two Midtown Locations
Kati Shop is a fast-casual, affordable, dedicated gluten-free Thai spot with many vegan options. This is one of my go-to lunch spots when I’m downtown. It’s about a 15-minute walk from my office, and I always make a point to stop by if I have a little bit of a longer lunch break. The staff is always so nice, and everything is always fresh and delicious.
My Favorites:
- Make Your Own Curry Platter with Tofu and Massaman Curry
I’m so thankful NYC has so many celiac-safe restaurants, that can cater to even more diets and restrictions. Let me know if you end up checking any of these places out!
