The Best Gluten-Free Pizza in NYC

“Love Pizza, Hate Gluten.” We all know the struggle of being diagnosed with celiac disease or gluten intolerance and having to bid farewell to our beloved pizza joints. No more late-night Domino’s deliveries or quick stops at the $1 pizza counter. And even when some places claim to have gluten-free options, there’s that nagging fear of cross-contamination in the back of our minds. But the good news: New York City, the pizza mecca, is also one of the best cities to find celiac-safe and gluten-free pizza options!

We’ve broken this list out into two categories: Dedicated Gluten-Free Restaurants, and Restaurants with Separate Kitchens, and we will continue to add it to it as we find more recommendations.

Dedicated Gluten-Free Pizza Places in NYC:

Wild NYC

West Village & Park Slope

Crust Style: New York-Style (Thin)

Wild is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in NYC, and their pizza is some of the best. While they have classic pizzas like Cheese and Pepperoni, they also have unique ones like the Avocado (one of my go-to’s).

And if you’re vegan? No problem! All of their pizza crusts are vegan, and they have a vegan cheese substitute.

My Favorite Wild Pizzas:

  • Local Mozzarella
  • Avocado

Senza Gluten by Jemiko, Bakery & Cafe

Greenwich Village

Crust Style: Sicilian Flatbread (Thick & Fluffy)

While Senza Gluten by Jemiko now has two locations, I recommend the Greenwich Village Bakey & Cafe location as there are not only more pizza options, but the other location in Hell’s Kitchen only has pizza on the menu during Brunch hours.

If you’re all about the crust when it comes to pizza, Senza is the perfect spot for you. There are 4 main pizza options, with the option to add more toppings.

My Favorite Senza Pizzas:

  • Margherita
  • Vegeteriana

Modern Bread and Bagel

Upper West Side

Crust Style: Neapolitan

Our beloved gluten-free bagel place, turns into a great spot at night Sunday-Thursday, with some of the best Margherita pizza I’ve ever had. While they only have one pizza option on their menu, I highly recommend it.

My Favorite Modern Pizza:

  • Margherita

Note: Their new Upper East Side location now has even more pizza! As soon as I try it, I will update here.

NYC Pizza Places with Separate Gluten-Free Kitchen Space:

Keste Pizza & Vino

Financial District

Crust Style: Neapolitan

Not only can every single pizza be made gluten-free, but the entire menu can be. Keste has an entirely separate gluten-free kitchen. They are also the biggest restaurant of those on the list and are perfect for hosting events and parties.

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, but please remember to ask questions and use your best judgment when dining in a non-dedicated gluten-free restaurant. Keste Pizza is not suitable if you have a wheat allergy and please use your best judgement when dining at a non-dedicated establishment.

My Favorite Keste Pizzas:

  • Burrata Roberto
  • Pomodoro

Don Antonio

Midtown Manhattan

Crust Style: Neapolitan

Every. Single. Pizza. Can be made gluten-free in their separate kitchen area and gluten-free oven. And it is some of the best pizza you will ever have.

The staff is also very knowledgeable about what is safe, and cross-contamination, but please remember to ask questions and use your best judgment when dining in a non-dedicated gluten-free restaurant. Don Antonio Pizza is not suitable if you have a wheat allergy and please use your best judgement when dining at a non-dedicated establishment.

My Favorite Don Antonio Pizzas:

  • Vegetariana
  • Ricotta

Conclusion:

Whether you live in NYC or you’re just visiting, there are so many great pizza options. (I don’t even miss Domino’s anymore.) The best part of all of these spots is they are also approved and beloved by my non-celiac friends as well! Happy pizza-ing.
